Excuse No 13 as to Why You Can’t Join a Mastermind Group

“You don’t know what your goals are”.

We spend so much of our business life being busy in business that we may only have like a really vague idea of what our goals are.

You’ve got a vague idea you’d like to grow your business but at this point it’s just a wish rather than a goal.

A business goal needs to be something with a specific end in mind and it should be a SMART goal, something that’s Specific, Measurable, Actionable, Relevant, and Timely.

So let’s imagine you want more clients.

A SMART goal will be something like, “I want to use a referral system to gain four new clients by the end of the year.”

You’ve been SPECIFIC in that you’ve recognised new clients will help you grow your business.

You’ve been MEASURABLE because you’ve stated the number of clients.

You’ve been ACTIONABLE because you’ve stated how, ie through a referral system.

You’ve been RELEVANT because the goal will help you achieve business growth.

And finally you’ve been TIMELY because you’ve stated when the goal will be achieved.

Goals are something that feature heavily in an LBN mastermind. However I’ve recognised that a lot of people don’t actually know how to set goals or even know what their goals should be.

So with that in mind, I’ve teamed up with mindset coach Vicky Henderson. so we can kickstart of all our mastermind programs with a goalsetting session which will help you define your specific goals.

As Vicky says a goal should be something that excites you, otherwise you’re never really going to work towards it.

Now I had a goal, I had a monetary goal. Vicky actually said to me, does that excite you. Do you get an excited feeling when you look at it or speak about that goal? Actually, I realised that, no I didn’t really, and that’s why I wasn’t hitting it. I realised I wasn’t particularly motivated by money.

Now don’t get me wrong. I do like money, but it wasn’t enough of a motivating factor. What I do like to do is to help people. So we changed my goal around to, “I want to help 12 people a month. This will still give me my original monetary goal but it feels far more exciting and motivating to me!

Do your goals actually motivate you? Or do you just have them because you think you should? Let me know what your goals are in the comments below!
